About Awlgrip
Awlgrip has set the standard in decorative yacht coatings worldwide, known for its outstanding quality, flawless finish and continuous innovation, backed by AkzoNobel.
It began in 1973, when two Eastern Airlines pilots asked a boatyard to use Alumigrip – a paint developed for aircraft – on their boats. The result was stunning. The new name, “Allgrip”, was chosen at a bar-room table, but when it was typed up from the napkin one “L” became a “W” – and Awlgrip was born. The range later grew to include varnishes, antifoulings, surfacers and fillers, and Awlgrip became a truly global brand.
